Location
Sea Trek's website has great directions. The only practical advice I can give is that if you've never been to Sea Treks before, or you don't know the streets of Sausalito give yourself an extra 15 minutes for getting lost. You're going to get lost. The first time you go, you'd swear it was the hidden inner sanctum of the Kremlin circa 1968.
What It's All About
SeaTreks is located in a tiny beach cove within the protective reach of the Richardson Bay. The Marin Headlands provide a natural barrier to the costal fog and wind that harrasses much of the rest of the Bay Area. So you can be sure that if there is sunshine anywhere in the Bay it will alwyas be shining in the Sea Treks cove. It's one of the very few places that beach goers can wear bathing suits on a pretty regular basis in the Bay Area.
Sea Treks is a Kayak rental and tour company that provides all of the equipment you might need for a day paddling around the Bay. You can choose to be part of a tour group or strike out on your own (provided you have passed the saftey and survival course). Sea Treks offers several different guided tours ranging from a house boat tour, visting Angel Island, or a spectacular Moonlight tour.
Why Should You Go
It is really one of the most pleasent and relaxing activities I have ever undertaken. Views of the City, Bay, and Bridges are fantastic and really cannot compare to the roadside observation points. If you think seeing the Golden Gate Bridge from your kayak is cool wait until a Sea Lion pops his head up next to your boat.
Don't Forget
Beside all the usual stuff: camera, sunblock, warm jacket, sandles, etc. Pack a picnic lunch. The kayaks have cargo holds and deck straps that will easily accomodate a bottle of wine, bread, cheese, fruits, salami, and whatever else. The kayaks are stable enough to take a break and have something to eat. Beware of other boat's wakes which will provide a little more excitement with your picnic than you want.
I should not have to say this but don't ever throw any of your garbage in the Bay. Pack out everything you brought from your lunch. If you happen to see any crap floating in the water pick it up and put it into your trash. Please pitch in and help us keep the Bay clean and beautiful.
Help! I Forgot Stuff
Don't worry just down the road from Sea Treks is a great gourmet grocery called Mollie Stone's. Not only can you get a cheap pair of sunglasses or waterproof sunblock, Mollie's is a great place to pick up picnic stuff. They have a great deli and a huge organic fruit and produce selection.
